COACHELLA VALLEY SECURITY ACADEMY

PROFESSIONAL SECURITY OFFICER TRAINING PROGRAMS

New laws governing California Security Officers went into effect on July 1, 2004, with the passage of California Assembly Bill 2880. Persons becoming employed or currently employed as Security Officers in the State of California are required to receive mandatory training both before and after being placed on a security assignment.

Security Officers with Registrations (Guard Cards) dated on or after July 1, 2004, must receive 40 hours of training as follows:

8 hours of training covering Powers of Arrest and Weapons of Mass Destruction prior to a security officer applying for guard registration and working at a security assignment.

16 hours of additional training within 30 days of issuance of a Guard Registration. This training must consist of four 4-hour courses from mandatory training modules. These modules are Public Relations, Observation and Documentation, Communication and Its Significance, and Liability/Legal Aspects.

16 hours of additional training within 6 months of issuance of the Guard Registration. This training must consist of elective training courses.

As of January 5, 2005, Security Officers with Registrations (Guard Cards) dated prior to July 1, 2004, and new Security Officers, after their initial 40 hours of required training, are required to receive 8 hours of yearly training from any of the training modules.

The course modules Coachella Valley Security Academy offers are part of the California Department of Consumer Affairs and CALSAGA Security Officer Training Program. CALSAGA* certifies the training modules as in compliance with Business and Professions Code Sections 7583.6 and 7583.7 and Title 16, Division 7, Article 9, Section 643 of the California Code of Regulations.
